Applying deodorant in the right way will give you the confidence that you’ll have that lovely fresh feeling all day.

Want to know how you can get the most out of your deodorant? We share our tips and tricks below.

3 simple steps for using spray deodorant

With these simple steps you can get the most out of your deodorant and enjoy day-long freshness:

  1. Wash and thoroughly dry your armpits
  2. Give the deodorant a good shake and hold it about 15 cm away from your armpit
  3. Spray for a couple of seconds under each arm, making sure you cover your entire armpit area

3 simple steps for using roll-on deodorant

  1. Wash and thoroughly dry your armpits
  2. Roll on 2–3 swipes of deodorant under each armpit, covering the entire armpit area
  3. Wait until the product is fully dry before putting your clothes on

How much product should I use?

You’ll only need to spray for a couple of seconds or apply a couple of swipes under each arm to keep you feeling fresh and confident during your day.

You’ll know if you’ve used too much spray if it creates flakes or comes off on your clothes.

You’ll know you’ve used too much roll on if it takes a long time to dry and your armpits still feel sticky after letting it dry for a few minutes.

It’s best to stick to the guidelines above and then if you do feel like you need a top up, apply a little more deodorant during the day.

Where else on my body can I use deodorant?

Deodorant is designed to be used under the arms but there’s no reason why you can’t apply a little to other areas of the body if you’re worried about unpleasant smells and want to feel fresh.

  • Underneath your breasts

You can apply a little deodorant under your breasts before you put on your bra—this should help combat unpleasant smells and keep you feeling fresh. If you want to feel dry, why not applying a little anti-perspirant?

  • Groin

It’s not a good idea to apply deodorant to your groin as the ingredients in deodorant could irritate the area and upset the delicate balance of bacteria in the vagina.

If you want to smell fresh, you could apply a swipe of roll-on deodorant to your upper thighs, but avoid spray deodorant or anti-perspirant in this area.

  • Feet

A quick swipe or spray of deodorant on your feet in a morning can help put a spring in your step for the day ahead, as your feet will feel cool and refreshed. Apply a swipe or spray to the soles of your feet before you put on your favourite shoes. If you are worried about sweat, then you could try to apply some anti-perspirant.

  • Back

If it’s a hot day and you want to feel cool and smell fresh, then you might benefit from applying a little deodorant to your back.

Don’t forget, deodorant doesn’t prevent sweating, it just helps prevent bad odours, so if you’re prone to sweating, you might be better off trying an anti-perspirant.

Can I spray deodorant on my clothes?

If you’re worried about smelling, you might be tempted to spray deodorant onto your clothes, but there’s not much point in doing this.

You need to spray deodorant directly onto your skin for it to work properly, as deodorant works by helping prevent the bacteria that can cause body odour from growing. If the product isn’t in direct contact with your skin, it won’t work properly.

When is the best time to apply deodorant?

When it comes to deodorant, the best time to apply is after a shower or bath, when your skin is clean and dry.

Can I apply deodorant at night?

There isn’t really any point in using deodorant at night as it deals with unpleasant smells, rather than preventing sweating. So you could apply it at night but you’d need to reapply the following morning to get the best results.
